Efficient and eco-friendly extraction of corn germ oil using aqueous ethanol solution assisted by steam explosion
An improved aqueous extraction method has been established for extraction of oil from corn germs. This method primarily included steam explosion pretreatment and aqueous ethanol extraction. Process variables such as steam pressure, resident time, particle size and ethanol concentration were investigated.
Designed for difficult-to-process materials like corn germ, palm kernel, and grapeseed, the Duo’s unique dual-pressing action can reduce residual oils to 5-6% in a single pass. Models of this machine from the 1930s are still operating today, earning the Duo a reputation as the most durable, long-lasting press in the oilseed extraction industry.
Corn germ oil extraction with compressed propane compared with Soxhlet extraction | Brazilian Journal of Chemical Engineering
Abstract The extraction of corn germ oil was evaluated using pressurized propane as solvent in semi-batch process as an alternative approach to organic solvent extraction. The effect of temperature (20, 40, 60 °C), pressure (20, 60, 100 bar), particle size and confinement time were studied.
In general, it is verified that corn oil processing by-product has a dry matter content of 89.0%, crude protein around 10.6%, the crude fiber of 4.6%, ether extract close to 1.34%, in addition to calcium, phosphorus, several amino acids such as methionine, lysine, and tryptophan [ 22, 23, 24 ].
Formation, characterization, and potential food application of rice bran wax oleogels: Expeller-pressed corn germ oil versus refined corn oil
To visualize the formation of oleogel, all the samples were placed upside down and were considered as oleogel if no oil flows down. As can be seen from the inserted picture in Fig. 1 B, all the samples successfully formed oleogels denoting that both refined corn oil and EP corn germ oil have the capability to form oleogel by RBX at a concentration of ≥ 3%.
It is estimated that world corn production is more than 1136.3 MMT (million metric tons) in 2020–2021 (Sep–Aug), and is much higher than the production of wheat (776.8 MMT) and rice (504.4 MMT). Furthermore, about 31.7% (360.3 MMT) was produced in the United States, followed by China (260.6 MMT) and Brazil (109.0 MMT) [ ].
Supercritical fluid extraction of corn germ oil: Study of the influence of process parameters on the extraction yield and oil quality
The supercritical fluid extraction of corn germ oil has been studied in this work. Extractions were carried out at different pressure, temperature and flow rate to analyze the influence of these variables on the extraction kinetics and the oil quality obtained.
Once the solvent is used to extract the oil, it is evaporated from the oil and used again. Through degumming, the crude corn germ oil is refined in corn oil refinery plant. Alkali treatment can also be used to refine the resultant corn oil. Edible Corn / Maize Germ Oil Refinery Plant. Phosphatides are removed in the edible oil refinery process.
